Friend,

I want to take just a moment to offer a word of welcome and say a few things about our wonderful community at Good Shepherd.

Good Shepherd was planted in 1874 as one of the six original missions in The Episcopal Diocese of Dallas. This church is proud of its history, and for good reason: many of us see it as a part of our Christian identity to carry on and expand the mission that has been passed down to us by the previous generations.

Those two elements are important: to “carry on” and to “expand.” The mission of this church is not simply to preserve what has come before but to add to it and we believe we are in a good position to do so. This area of East Texas is rapidly expanding.

As Dallas continues to grow, we are seeing a major migration of families, businesses, and the needy into our community. Our Lord’s words are as true today as they have ever been: the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. This is our mission—our contribution to what has come before—to raise up workers for the harvest of the Kingdom of God. At Good Shepherd, we do this through gospel-centered preaching and teaching, weekly participation in the Eucharist, the cultivation of spiritual habits and disciplines, and service-oriented projects in our community.

We believe that the future here at Good Shepherd is bright. I would like to invite you to be a part of it—the harvest abounds!

Much Hope,

The Rev’d Ian G. Hyde—Priest-in-Charge
